Standards - Public-Root Name Server Operational Requirements

Root domain name servers are a crucial part of Internet technology and infrastructure. The INAIC and the Public-Root in an effort to standardize the operations of root name servers have published official guidelines to operators.

The guidelines titled “Public-Root Name Server Operational Requirements” were published this January 17th, 2005. The guidelines contain recommendations and standards applicable to the operation of Public-Root name servers.

The INAIC and the Public-Root welcome comments and contributions to these guidelines. The Internet community’s participation in the development of root standards is necessary to the robust operation of the Public-Root. Please send your comments or interest in participating to guidelines@inaic.com.
